Examines social isolation and the use of informal helping networks of families (N=130) at risk for child abuse or neglect. Preventive service workers' (N=13) responses to a natural helper survey revealed that friends, relatives, and neighbors are potential helpers for such families and are effective in resolving problems they address. Spiegel, Sharon Baron – Journal of Counseling Psychology, 1976
The effects of two levels of counselor similarity and expertness and two types of clients' problems on perceptions of the counselor's competence were tested in this analogue study. Results indicated that suggestions of expertness led to higher evaluations of counselors for both problems. (Author)

Investigates whether self-disclosure elicits anxiety and subsequent coping attempts in subjects who interact with a direct, open and disclosing communicator.
