This is the first scientific report on the examination of the lunar samples returned from the Apollo 12 mission. Analyses of 34 kilograms of lunar rocks and fines reveal significant differences from the samples from Tranquillity Base, most notably in age, texture, amount of solar wind material, and in mineral and chemical composition. Compensatory articulation patterns on the glossal phonemes were developed clinically in a study of 14 total and 11 partial glossectomees. Following therapy, intelligibility of the former increased from 0-8 percent on admission to 18-24 percent intelligibility; the latter group improved from 6-24 percent to 24-46 percent intelligibility. On two tests of phonetic manipulation 25 male stutterers were found to be inferior to matched controls. Results are reported to be consistent with previous findings of author and to interrelate with earlier research suggesting that some inadequacy in sound-making skills is an important aspect of stuttering.
