Significant results were higher ratings of counselor expertness for the expert than the referent power base, and higher ratings of counselor expertness for low status within the expert power base. To investigate affective and dispositional factors in the motivation of children's helping, 60 children ranging from preschool to sixth grade were observed in laboratory distress incidents.
