In the last 6 months many private and corporate foundations have urged on colleges and universities to develop proposals to address problems posed by AIDS. Other philanthropies are helping colleges form citizens' commissions that will develop plans to prevent the spread of AIDS in their communities. Some programs are discussed. (MLW)

The condition of the disabled in developing nations, particularly Nigeria, is considered. Discussed are prevention of disability by control of infectious diseases, effects of myth and superstition on attitudes toward the disabled, the lack of medical facilities, and the rights of the disabled to an education and building access. To prevent the spread of AIDS, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) are working with national associations and local government and education departments to establish and improve AIDS education programs. It has published guidelines for school health education and has created an online bibliography of AIDS education resources. (JL)
