Rodabough, Tillman – Journal of Teacher Education, 1980
Classroom teachers need to understand the broad differences that exist between a child's perception of death and that of an adult and should be prepared to confront and cope with the effects of death and grief upon students. Children's perceptions of death and ways in which the teacher can help the child with his grief are described. (JN)

Brainerd, Charles J. – Psychological Review, 1979
A general theory of how children learn conservation concepts is presented. The acquisition process is described at an abstract level in terms of a rule-sampling system, implying a three-state Markov model with identifiable parameters. Three experiments testing the model's quantitative predictions about conservation learning experiments are…

Fredette, Norman; Lochhead, John – Physics Teacher, 1980
Investigates some conceptual difficulties which college students have with regard to simple direct current circuits. The clinical interview technique was used with 57 students in a freshman level engineering course. (HM)

Dossey, John A. – Journal for Research in Mathematics Education, 1980
The effect on student attainment of the number of moves in a concept teaching venture is examined. Results suggest the number of moves in short ventures had little effect on attainment of mathematical concepts. However, performance increased as the number of moves in longer ventures increased. Davis, J. Kent; Frank, Bernard M. – Journal of Research in Personality, 1979
This review of the concept learning literature indicates that the greater effectiveness of field-independent learners is related to memory efficiency and the ability to conduct combinatorial analysis. Short-term memory and free recall studies suggest factors contributing to the less efficient memory of field-dependent learners. (Editor/SJL)
