MacDonald, N. – American Journal of Physics, 1974
This is one of a series of Resource Letters on different topics, intended to guide college physicists to some of the literature and other teaching aids. This bibliography is designed to help physicists identify literature related to mathematical biology. (Author/RH)

Albrecht, Klaus – International Journal of Mathematical Education in Science and Technology, 1974
A graphical method is proposed which allows one to visualize a real matrix and its inverse. In this scheme, various special properties of the matrix are easily recognized. Up to 5x5 matrices can be graphed on an average page if the range of values does not exceed two orders of magnitude. (Author/LS)

Acock, Alan C.; Martin, J. David – Sociology and Social Research, 1974
The position of the "purists" who insist on limiting data to ordinal analysis is contrasted with the "pragmatists" who treat data as interval. (Author)

Goguen, Joseph A., Jr. – International Journal of Man-Machine Studies, 1974
Paper reports research related to mathematics, philosophy, computer science and linguistics. It gives a system of axioms for a relatively simple form of fuzzy set theory, and uses these axioms to consider the accuracy of representing concepts in various ways by fuzzy sets. (Author)

Shuck, Les E. – American School and University, 1974
Newport-mesa Unified School District in California, with the aid of a computer, has developed a highly reliable 5-year projection of its schools' population and required facilities. (Author/MLF)

Rouse, William B. – Journal of the American Society for Information Science, 1975
Queueing theory is used to model processes as either waiting or balking processes. The optimal allocation of resources to these processes is defined as that which maximizes the expected value of the decision-maker's utility function. (Author)

Malgady, Robert G. – 1975
Common applications of the part correlation coefficient are in causal regression models and estimation of suppressor variable effects. However, there is no statistical test of the significance of the difference between a zero-order correlation and a part correlation, nor between a pair of part correlations. Hotelling's t is used for contrasting:…

Blumberg, Carol Joyce; Porter, Andrew C. – 1981
Analysis strategies are discussed for the nonequivalent control group design when three models of continuous natural growth are known. For Model I type natural growth it was shown that the fan spread hypothesis always holds, and Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA), Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) of Residualized Gain Scores, and ANOVA of Standardized…

WINTERS, WILLIAM K. – 1967
THIS NOTE PRESENTS MODELS FOR PASSING JUDGMENT ON THE IMPORTANCE OF PROJECTS. TWO APPROACHES ARE CONSIDERED--PROJECTS WITH TWO ATTRIBUTES, PRIORITY AND DEADLINE DATES, AND PROJECTS WITH K ATTRIBUTES. THE SOLUTIONS ARE ILLUSTRATED THROUGH EXAMPLES AND BY AN ALGORITHM PRESENTED IN A COMPUTER REFERENCE LANGUAGE TO SHOW HOW ONE OF THE SOLUTIONS CAN BE…

STAKE, ROBERT E.; AND OTHERS – 1962
AN EMPIRICAL STUDY WAS MADE OF THE ERROR FACTORS IN MULTIDIMENSIONAL SCALING (MDS) TO REFINE THE USE OF MDS FOR MORE EXPERT MANIPULATION OF SCALES USED IN EDUCATIONAL MEASUREMENT. THE PURPOSE OF THE RESEARCH WAS TO GENERATE TABLES OF THE SAMPLING DISTRIBUTIONS THAT ARE NECESSARY FOR DISCRIMINATING BETWEEN ERROR AND NONERROR MDS DIMENSIONS. THE…

DUKE, JAMES A.; ELAM, CLAUDE B. – 1964
EXPERIMENTS WERE PERFORMED TO DETERMINED HOW MENTALLY RETARDED AND NORMAL SUBJECTS SYNTHESIZE STIMULI WITH RESPONSES. ALSO, RELATIONSHIPS AMONG THE STIMULUS SYNTHESIS PROCESS, INTELLIGENCE, AND RATE OF LEARNING WERE STUDIED. DISCRIMINATION TASKS WERE USED WHICH REQUIRED SUBJECTS, NORMAL (COLLEGE, HIGH SCHOOL, AND GRADE SCHOOL ENROLLEES) AND…

Frankiewicz, Ronald G.; Croft, John C. – 1978
This paper proposes a systematic model for objectively structuring the information exchanged between the bargainers in either the mediation or conciliation processes. The model is intended to be useful to mediators in organizing proposals to use with bargainers. The authors examine possibilities for an educational organization that uses…

Dempsey, Jack R.; And Others – 1979
This report refines and improves upon a conceptual model and a mathematical procedure, based upon a blend of Likelihood Function Estimation (LIFE) and utility theory. Empirical studies conducted by the Air Force Military Personnel Center in 1975 and 1976 have shown that the LIFE procedure can be very useful in the prediction and study of…

Vincent, William S. – IAR-Research Bulletin, 1966
This paper attempts to show that adaptation of mathematics to the input-output model of the school can provide powerful assistance in the measurement and analysis of school quality and its determinants. The mathematical relationship described here relates an educational model to the field of electronics. More specifically, the amplifier, a device…
