Peer reviewedHuitema, Bradley E. – Multiple Linear Regression Viewpoints, 1978
Many methodologists are aware that parametric tests associated with the analysis of variance and the analysis of covariance can be computed using regression procedures. It is shown that multiple linear regression can also be employed to compute the Kruskal-Wallis nonparametric analysis of variance. (Author)
Descriptors: Analysis of Covariance, Analysis of Variance, Data Analysis, Multiple Regression Analysis
Peer reviewedWolfle, Lee M. – Multiple Linear Regression Viewpoints, 1978
The author is generally critical of the previous article (TM 503 686), which concerned the use of multiple regression for nonparametric analysis of variance. (JKS)
Descriptors: Analysis of Covariance, Analysis of Variance, Data Analysis, Multiple Regression Analysis
Peer reviewedHuitema, Bradley E. – Multiple Linear Regression Viewpoints, 1978
Issues in analysis of covariance, multiple regression analysis, and the analysis of variance such as the assumption of independence and directional hypotheses are discussed. (JKS)
Descriptors: Analysis of Covariance, Analysis of Variance, Data Analysis, Multiple Regression Analysis
Richards, Winston A. – MATYC Journal, 1978
The students in a basic course on probability and statistics in Trinidad demonstrated that the number of fatal highway accidents appeared to follow a Poisson distribution while the length of time between deaths followed exponential distribution. (MN)
Descriptors: College Mathematics, Data Analysis, Higher Education, Mathematical Models
Landsmann, Leanna – Today's Education, 1978
Opinions from a survey of 9,000 teachers on teacher health are summarized. The role of the school principal in promoting teacher health is considered crucial. (MJB)
Descriptors: Administrator Role, Data Analysis, Factor Analysis, Health Conditions
Jones, Douglas H. – Library Journal, 1978
Questions are raised concerning the statistical methodology employed in the NILN. The author states that "better and more appropriate statistical methodology should be incorporated in future studies on library needs" and two alternatives are suggested. (JPF)
Descriptors: Data Analysis, Data Collection, Libraries, Library Planning
Peer reviewedFahey, Virginia K.; And Others – Child Development, 1978
This critique points out weaknesses regarding the test measures used by Munsinger and Douglass and questions the validity of these measures for the ages of the children used in their study. (JMB)
Descriptors: Data Analysis, Language Acquisition, Nature Nurture Controversy, Research Design
Peer reviewedMunsinger, Harry – Child Development, 1978
Descriptors: Data Analysis, Language Acquisition, Nature Nurture Controversy, Research Design
Peer reviewedBlount, H. Parker; And Others – Journal of Educational Research, 1978
In this study of teacher/course evaluations by college students, the authors found that different stated purposes for the evaluation (student use, instructor use, or administrator use) had no differing effects on student ratings. Graduate teaching assistants received higher ratings than did either assistants or full professors. (MJB)
Descriptors: College Students, Course Evaluation, Data Analysis, Student Evaluation of Teacher Performance
Peer reviewedPalmer, Beverly B.; Lewis, Charles E. – Journal of School Health, 1976
A summary is given of investigations examining the attitudes of five- to twelve-year old children concerning (1) definitions of health and illness, (2) concepts of causation and prevention, (3) perceptions of vulnerability, and (4) use of health care providers, and suggestions are presented for implementing specific educational processes based on…
Descriptors: Childhood Attitudes, Concept Formation, Data Analysis, Educational Research
Peer reviewedMartin, Paul J.; And Others – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1977
This study tested competing interpretations of IQ deficit in schizophrenic patients. One interpretation (concomitancy hypothesis) holds that IQ loss is a product of schizophrenic symptoms and is remedied as the symptoms remit. The second (prodromal hypothesis) holds that IQ deficit preceeds and facilitates the development of schizophrenic disorder…
Descriptors: Data Analysis, Hypothesis Testing, Intelligence Quotient, Psychological Studies
Peer reviewedBourne, Charles P. – Information Processing and Management, 1977
Estimates of frequency of spelling errors are made based on a sample of 3,600 index terms drawn from 11 bibliographic data bases. The impact of these errors is discussed by tape supplier, tape user, and end user; with some suggestions for search strategies.
Descriptors: Data Analysis, Databases, Information Retrieval, Online Systems
Peer reviewedMcCall, Robert B. – Child Development, 1977
This paper suggests that, at present, a science of natural developmental processes does not exist because few studies are concerned with development as it transpires in naturalistic environments and because truly developmental data are not collected or analyzed. (Author/JMB)
Descriptors: Data Analysis, Data Collection, Developmental Psychology, Research Design
Peer reviewedNation, Jack R.; McCullers, John C. – American Journal of Psychology, 1977
A theoretical model for estimating the effects of age and incentive on children's performance in probability learning is introduced. Novel predictions of the model about the effects of combinations of age and incentive were tested and confirmed. (Editor/RK)
Descriptors: Age, Charts, Data Analysis, Expectation
Peer reviewedBrussell, Edward M.; And Others – American Journal of Psychology, 1977
The possibility that subjective contours are an artifact of brightness contrast was explored. Concludes that subjective contour and brightness contrast are distinct perceptual phenomena but share a dependency on the processing of edge information transmitted through the achromatic channels of the visual system. (Editor/RK)
Descriptors: Charts, Data Analysis, Experiments, Luminescence
