This study reports the procedures used to reduce the relative frequency of psychotic speech in an autistic child, and to produce verbal behavior appropriate for more conventional psychotherapeutic intervention. A university laboratory school counselor was consulted by a fourth grade teacher in order to resolve disruptive classroom behaviors of one student who did not stay seated and spoke without permission. A behaviorial approach was employed and the study illustrates how the counselor can be effective as a consultant. (Author)
