Beyond the Exhibit: Interpretation and Adult Education in Women's Museums -- A Case Study of the 'Images of Women in Construction' Exhibition
Tijana Jakovljevic Ševic1
Studies in the Education of Adults, v57 n2 p291-304 2025
This paper explores the intersection of interpretation and adult education within women's museums, emphasising the role of interpretation as both an art and a science. It examines how thoughtful interpretive strategies can transform static exhibitions into dynamic spaces for dialogue and reflection, specifically tailored for an adult audience. Using the 'Images of Women in Construction' exhibition at the Museum of Women's Culture Regional-International as a case study, the paper highlights how engaging adult visitors through relevant and experiential learning opportunities fosters personal connections to the material. By encouraging visitors to share their own experiences and perspectives, museums can create inclusive environments that reflect the different aspects of women's lives.
