Discusses the discrepancy between the conceptualization of reflection-impulsivity and its operationalization. In a study of 100 children, the separate contributions of latency and accuracy were evaluated. Data indicated that accuracy had important personality concomitants; latency was inconsequential. Results showed three stages: (1) they ove rextend the term "cup"; (2) they focus only on certain perceptual properties; (3) they show growing awareness of functional properties and hence the vagueness of the boundary.
