Recent contact with harmonic and popular music has radically changed traditional forms of Indian music. The impact of Western music on classical styles, the social role of folk and popular music, and aspects of the social structure of music are discussed. (AM)

In order to provide information missing from elementary and secondary educational materials, briefly reviews the history, geography, and current political, economic, demographic, and social characteristics of El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Some information is also given about Costa Rica, Panama, and Belize.

Power dependence theory and anticompetitive theory/sex strategy research were used to study a power v a socialization perspective. Results indicate that neither theory adequately explains perceptions or behavior in mixed sex groups. A sex stratification perspective can illuminate societal reasons for sex differences.
