Landa, Suzanne – 1976
Instructions are provided on how to create and take computer aided admissible probability measurement (CAAPM) tests using programs available on PLATO IV. Admissible probability measurement is a testing procedure that permits a user to express a degree of uncertainty as to the correctness of alternative answers. Section II describes PLATO IV, an…

Newell, G. J.; MacFarlane, J. D. – Australian Mathematics Teacher, 1985
Presents sports-oriented examples (cricket and football) in which Monte Carlo methods are used on microcomputers to teach probability concepts. Both examples include computer programs (with listings) which utilize the microcomputer's random number generator. Instructional strategies, with further challenges to help students understand the role of…

Movshovitz-Hadar, N.; And Others – Focus on Learning Problems in Mathematics, 1986
A collection of student distortions, represented by student-invented variations of theorems, are presented. They were drawn from examination papers of 17-year-old students in Israel. (MNS)

Bright, George W. – School Science and Mathematics, 1985
This study was designed to determine the effectiveness of two microcomputer instructional games in teaching probability and measurement estimation to 78 preservice elementary school teachers. The probability game did not seem effective, and the estimation game was only marginally effective. Patterns of change are discussed. (MNS)

Stanwick, John; Ong, Koon; Karmel, Tom – National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER), 2006
This research was undertaken as part of the National Centre for Vocational Education Research's (NCVER) in-house research program. The report focuses on individuals who, together with industry, are at the centre of vocational education and training (VET). What is novel about the research is that it looks further than skills and workforce outcomes…

Maxwell, Martha – 1998
Simple Bayesian approaches can be applied to answer specific questions in evaluating an individualized reading program. A small reading and study skills program located in the counseling center of a major research university collected and compiled data on student characteristics such as class, number of sessions attended, grade point average, and…

Ohio State Univ., Columbus. Vocational Instructional Materials Lab. – 1999
This book was developed for teachers, youth group leaders, after-school child care providers, and parents, who may not have the time or the expertise to develop strategies for preparing students to be effective problem solvers. The content is organized in a pyramid style to make it easy to locate and grasp the information provided. Information on…

Runyan, William McKinley – Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, 1980
Stage-state analysis of the life course is presented as useful in identifying types of life courses and their relative frequency, in estimating the likelihood of moving from a given state through a sequence of future states, and in analyzing routes and processes connecting initial states with potential outcomes. Kokis, Judite V.; Macpherson, Robyn; Toplak, Maggie E.; West, Richard F.; Stanovich, Keith E. – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 2002
Examined developmental and individual differences in tendencies to favor analytic over heuristic responses in three tasks (inductive reasoning, deduction under belief bias conditions, probabilistic reasoning) in children varying in age and cognitive ability. Found significant increases in analytic responding with development on first two tasks.…
