This textbook is a course in elementary arithmetic. It stresses mental as well as written exercises. Addition and subtraction are first presented together, and later multiplication and division.

Twelve fourth-grade classes in two schools were taught division using either the subtractive approach to the Greenwood algorithm or a partitioning approach to the standard algorithm. Under the new plan, public schooling would be broken down into a 6-3-3 structure; six years at elementary level, and three each at lower and upper secondary levels.
