Analysis of errors by more than 300 kindergarten children on the Boehm Test of Basic Concepts suggested seven cognitive factors that appear to be involved, including complexity of directions, deficits in spatial perception, and inadequate auditory memory for sentences. (CL)

The factor analytic model of the practitioner-oriented "Opinions about People" was tested with a population of gerontological practitioners. An analysis eliminated nine items not warranting inclusion in the instrument, redistributed the factors, and brought out a completely new factor. (Author)

Eight newborn babies were tested to see whether they could make discriminating head-turn responses to the sound of a 9-second recording of a human voice coming 15 degrees, 30 degrees, and 80 degrees from the midline, from either the right or left side. Meditation and relaxation were compared for ability to reduce stress reactions in a laboratory threat situation. Female subjects were randomly assigned to an n Power arousal group or control group. Analysis of TAT protocols revealed that n Power was aroused in women as successfully as the procedures had been with men. Subjects' self-ratings also demonstrated that subjects felt stronger in the experimental group. (NG)

Data from the USA Census and the National Health Interview Survey were used to project the future relative status of the aged in health, income, occupation, and education. It was found that in all areas the relative status of the aged is rising. (Author)

The present study, using official records and self-reports of offense type, shows that indicators based on the former are less adequate for predictive and causal studies of recidivism than those based on the latter. Mentally retarded youngsters (N=80) aged 6 to 16, were tested on the WISC-R, primarily to assess the continuity of measurement between the old and new WISCs. There was evidence to support the continuity of the WISC-R with its predecessor for retarded populations. (Author)

Subtest questions of the Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence are ordered from least to most difficult. Test records of 89 females and 62 males revealed though questions were misordered for the present sample, misordering was not great enough to seriously affect subtest scores or interpretation of intratest scatter. Younger (N=31) and older (N=21) men participated in a bogus convergent-thinking task in which they rated their effort expenditure after experiencing varying degrees of success. As predicted, results indicated younger, but not older men perceived they tried harder when they succeeded relative to when they failed. (Author)
