Adaptation to the retirement process by male sociologists and psychologists was studied for the age period 60-75 in the group of men who held academic positions in departments of psychology or sociology for at least 15 years immediately before the age of 60. Life histories and daily routines of women over the age of 55 living in Seattle single room occupant (SRO) hotels were studied using observational and interviewing methods. Residence in SRO's appears to be part of a natural life history progression for these women rather than a result of social pathology. (Author)

Multiple pathology, a common phenomenon among elderly, fosters the practice of multiple drug therapy, which is particularly hazardous for this age grouping. The total drug exposure of two typical elderly persons, one institutionalized and one living at home, were analyzed. Potentially harmful drug interactions were discerned in both cases. (Author)

People with elderly parents met in five eight-week counseling groups to make decisions about the extent of responsibility they could comfortably assume for their parents and work toward reaching a stage of filial maturity. Results indicate that this informal, supportive modality is effective in helping adult children make decisions. (Author)

Bolton, Brian – Rehabilitation Counseling Bulletin, 1978
A group of 31 clients completed the Human Service Scale and were evaluated by their counselors, who used the Client Outcome Measure at the time of the clients' acceptance for rehabilitation services and again at closure. Results were generally consistent with those of previous investigations. (Author)

Many expectations concerning performance on educational and psychological tests are sex-stereotyped. Females, for example, are expected to do better on verbal tests, while males are expected to do better on mathematical tests. Data from six national surveys are combined and analyzed to determine how strongly occupational attainments affect the status perceptions of working wives. The results indicate that the effects are limited to women married to men with middle-class jobs. (Author)

An instrument labeled the Personal Report of Spouse Communication Apprehension was developed and found to have adequate internal consistency, face validity, and predictive validity. Results of its use indicate that spouse communication apprehension is conceptually and factorially distinct from general communication apprehension. (Author)
