Since 1971 the Close Up Foundation has brought high school students to Washington, DC for one-week intensive sessions designed to stimulate participation in the political process and increase understanding of the federal government. The varieties of experiences provided and the program's strengths and weaknesses are discussed. (IS)

Described the development of a high school curriculum designed to promote the psychological growth of students (N=51) in a course about life history interviewing with older adults. Discusses trends affecting the development of counseling centers into comprehensive, developmentally oriented agencies, and describes the Counseling and Testing Center at the University of Georgia. Summarizes administrative issues and steps taken to facilitate desired changes. (JAC)

Compared the effectiveness of didactic and experiential group counseling techniques for improving the personal and vocational development of 45 Black freshmen evening students. Results showed no positive changes in any of the treatments. Possible contributing factors are discussed. (JAC)

Discusses the significance of dramatic form in fostering children's cognitive and affective development. Examines the work of John Dewey, Susanne Langer, Nelson Goodman, Gavin Bolton, and Robert Witkin. (PD)

Describes factors affecting the development of mutuality of attraction in natural small groups, and tests the hypothesis of the acquaintance process in 41 female residents of three floors of a university dormitory over the course of a year. Two floors showed definite increases in dyadic mutuality over time. (JAC)

Compared the effects of instruction on the development of students in a career course based on psychosocial theory with the effects of two comparison courses. Results were mixed, but suggested that content related to careers might facilitate psychosocial development, and development in one area may precipitate development in another. (JAC)

Describes a workshop led by resident assistants offering communication skills to roommates in university residence halls. Results of an evaluation showed most participants as well as RAs found the workshops a positive experience, although significant differences in roommate relationships between participants and controls were not observed. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, is administering a program of grants and contracts to encourage and assist the establishment of arts education programs.
