Since 1972, most research conducted has been in large-scale studies and use of nonprint materials; use of government documents and library staff needs remain unresearched areas. Reviews a survey of members of the College Section of the National Council of Teachers of English concerning their use of grading scales in the evaluation of freshman writing. Concludes that the theoretical interest in the scales is apparently not matched by their use by teachers. (FL)

Examined adolescent use of popular music, identifying types of music preferences. Concluded that a relationship exists between amount of peer orientation and type of music preferences and that the motivations for listening were more physical and emotional than cerebral (that is, listening to lyrics).
