A peer tutoring spelling game using social and token reinforcement, team competition, distributed practice, and error correction resulted in dramatically improved spelling performances by six learning disabled third graders. Oxygen consumption and heart rate were monitored in 32 male adults playing racquetball and squash. Results indicated that energy expenditure in racquetball was only slightly less than for squash, suggesting that either sport is appropriate for developing and maintaining fitness in healthy adults. Table games with special dice can help children with severe learning difficulties to improve their basic number skills (rote counting, numeral recognition, and counting out a quantity of objects from 1-200. Two severely retarded adolescents who participated in self instructional training for increasing a complex social-leisure skill, game playing, learned to perform and verbalize the individual game steps.
