Andersen, Erling B. – Psychometrika, 1985
A model for longitudinal latent structure analysis was proposed that combined the values of a latent variable at two time points in a two-dimensional latent density. The correlation coefficient between the two values of the latent variable can then be estimated. (NSF)

Rudner, Lawrence M. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1983
The relationship between item parameter values obtained from independent Birnbaum (l968) model calibrations of the same item set from two different samples is examined. (Author)

Kiesling, Herbert J. – Economics of Education Review, 1984
The relationship of minutes of reading instruction to the gains in reading performance for 3,374 elementary school children shows consistent positive findings between large- and small-group classroom instruction and reading gains. Some of the negative results for individualized instruction may be due to school assignment practices. (Author/MLF)

Chilvers, Peter – Mathematics in School, 1985
A model is offered which can be used for teaching addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division with directed numbers. Illustrations for all operations are given. (MNS)

Hayes, Robert M.; Borko, Harold – Information Processing and Management, 1983
Presents results from study of mathematical models (Cobb-Douglas model, mixture of Poissons, inverse effects of distance, weighted entropy) relating to usage of information systems, and notes papers developed during study which provide three types of analysis--literature reviews, analytical studies, and tests of models. Six references are…

Brookes, B. C. – Journal of Documentation, 1984
Review of recent developments in statistical theories for social sciences highlights Haitun's statistical distributions, Laplace's "Law of Succession" and distribution, Laplace and Bradford analysis of book-index data, inefficiency of frequency distribution analysis, Laws of Bradford and Zipf, natural categorization, and Bradford Law and…

Katz, Barry M.; McSweeney, Maryellen – Journal of Experimental Education, 1984
This paper developed and illustrated a technique to analyze categorical data when subjects can appear in any number of categories for multigroup designs. Post hoc procedures to be used in conjunction with the presented statistical test are also developed. The technique is a large sample technique whose small sample properties are as yet unknown.…

Stegelmann, Werner – Psychometrika, 1983
The Rasch model is generalized to a multicomponent model, so that observations of component events are not needed to apply the model. It is shown that the generalized model maintains the property of specific objectivity of the Rasch model. An application to a mathematics test is provided. (Author/JKS)

Blumberg, Carol Joyce; Porter, Andrew C. – Journal of Experimental Education, 1983
The general class of continuous growth models are described and examples representative of growth models suggested for various types of academic and/or physical growth are given. The fan spread hypothesis is discussed in relationship to natural growth models, as well as differential linear growth. (PN)

Stavig, Gordon R. – Journal of Experimental Education, 1983
A method is developed for testing a priori multiple regression models. The method allows one to specify in advance as many unstandardized or standardized coefficients as one wants to and allows the remaining slopes to be free to vary. (Author/PN)

Stone, Carol Leth – Journal of Experimental Education, 1983
Twenty-nine reports yielding 112 studies were analyzed with Glass's meta-analysis technique, and results were compared with predictions from Ausubel's model of assimilative learning. Overall, advance organizers were shown to be associated with increased learning and retention of material to be learned. (Author)

McLennan, Duncan J. – Journal of Chemical Education, 1976
Uses the intersecting parabola model to derive an equation that relates the observed free energy of activation for a slow proton transfer to the overall thermodynamic free energy change in the reaction. (MLH)

Andersen, Erling B. – Psychometrika, 1976
A Bradley-Terry type model for paired comparisons is considered which allows for individual parameters and corresponding parameters for the choice-alternatives. Model is applied to data from a Danish investigation of blue collar attitudes towards alternative social gains. Model is compared to one suggested by Schonemann and Wang. (RC)
