Bowker, Leslie S.; Bowker, Rosemary C. – Collegiate Microcomputer, 1986
Describes the laboratory portion of the General Ecology course offered at California Polytechnic State University in which laboratory exercises to collect and analyze data were enriched through introduction of computerized data processing. Advantages, software development, program implementation, course specific computer usage, and student…
Descriptors: Computer Software, Course Content, Curriculum Enrichment, Data Analysis
Ellsworth, Randy; Bowman, Barbara – Collegiate Microcomputer, 1984
Describes a study conducted to determine the effect of exposure to microcomputers coupled with large video displays on college students' beliefs about computers. Students' attitudes were measured both before and after exposure to microcomputers, and results indicate that students exposed to microcomputers developed more positive attitudes than the…

Maximum Likelihood Estimation of Factor Structures of Anxiety Measures: A Multiple Group Comparison.
Peer reviewedNewton, Rae R. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1984
This paper examines the construct generality of five self-report measures of anxiety across male and female samples, and illustrates the use of confirmatory maximum likelihood techniques for examining factorial invariance. (Author/BW)
Descriptors: Affective Measures, Analysis of Covariance, Anxiety, Data Analysis
Peer reviewedStage, Frances K.; And Others – Journal of Experimental Education, 1984
Given the increased data-based capabilities of educational institutions, educational researchers should have more opportunities to use sequential designs. This paper illustrates how to analyze educational data from a cohort-sequential design. University data pertaining to grade inflation were analyzed using a variant of multiple regression.…
Descriptors: Change, Cohort Analysis, College Students, Data Analysis
Peer reviewedWesley, Cecile – Information Development, 1985
Describes and illustrates the main characteristics and methods of data collection and analysis used in compiling the National Register of Current Research, a major element of the Unesco pilot project initiated in the Sudan for the creation of an information service on research in progress. Eight sources are given. (EJS)
Descriptors: Data Analysis, Developing Nations, Flow Charts, Information Networks
Peer reviewedEllman, Ira Mark – Journal of Legal Education, 1983
Some selected law journals were examined to determine their contributors, the relative production of pages and footnotes by rank of the authors, and by authors' law school. The productivity of law faculties was compared and the extent of in-house publishing was examined. (Author/MLW)
Descriptors: Citation Indexes, Citations (References), Comparative Analysis, Data Analysis
Peer reviewedKamphaus, Randy W.; Lozano, Ruben – School Psychology Review, 1984
Practical considerations associated with local norms development are discussed. A local norming project administering the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test-Revised to 398 elementary Mexican--American children is presented in detail. The utility of local norms and their interpretation is discussed in the context of this local project. (Author/BW)
Descriptors: Data Analysis, Data Collection, Elementary Education, Individual Testing
Peer reviewedSheret, Michael – Comparative Education Review, 1984
Addresses applications of the coefficient of variation as a measure of educational inequality or as a means of measuring changes of inequality status. Suggests the Gini coefficient has many advantages over the coefficient of variation since it can be used with the Lorenz curve (Lorenz provides detail Gini omits). (BRR)
Descriptors: Analysis of Variance, Comparative Analysis, Comparative Education, Data Analysis
Gage, N. L. – Phi Delta Kappan, 1984
Argues that experimental and field research can now demonstrate causal relationships between teaching techniques and learning, and that effective teaching practices can be taught. Urges, therefore, that improving teacher education be given high priority. (MCG)
Descriptors: Data Analysis, Elementary Secondary Education, Instructional Improvement, Research Design
Peer reviewedMeziani, Ahmed – International Review of Applied Linguistics in Language Teaching, 1984
Presents the results of a study of the errors made on essays by Moroccan students of English as a second language. The average number of grammatical errors was 10.62 per paper and the most frequent errors were related to tense, prepositions, articles, form, and concord. (SED)
Descriptors: Data Analysis, English (Second Language), Error Analysis (Language), Error Patterns
Peer reviewedPong, P. – Physics Education, 1983
Describes an experiment for plotting equipotential curves in which the normally used electrometer is replaced by a null-deflecting potentiometer, and in which the uniform resistance wire is substituted by carbon-impregnated conductive paper. Procedures and sample plot/results (including graphic analysis) are provided. (JM)
Descriptors: College Science, Data Analysis, Electric Circuits, Electricity
Peer reviewedBaldwin, Lee; And Others – Journal of Experimental Education, 1984
Within-class regression is a method, developed in this paper, of comparing a large number of nonequivalent groups. This study indicated that within-class regression was a less biased method of data analysis and will yield more accurate estimates of treatment effects than analysis of covariance. (PN)
Descriptors: Analysis of Covariance, Data Analysis, Educational Research, Evaluation Methods
Firenze, Louis – Alternative Higher Education, 1983
The importance to alumni of a nontraditional program and the negotiability of the degree to the alumni, their employers and peers, and graduate schools was examined. Data indicated that the main reasons for selecting a nontraditional program were a flexible schedule and the need to maintain a regular working day. (Author/MLW)
Descriptors: Adult Students, Alumni, Data Analysis, Data Collection
Peer reviewedBryk, Anthony S.; Weisberg, Herbert I. – Journal of Educational Statistics, 1976
Focuses on the fact that an educational treatment typically involves an intervention in a growth process. By modelling this process, expected growth for various treatment groups under control conditions may be estimated. Actual growth can be compared with projected growth to estimate the value-added by the program. A simple model is developed. (RC)
