The impact of the Stanford Binet Fourth Edition was compared with the Stanford Binet L-M on the identification of gifted children for a university affiliated preschool. The fourth edition test composite identified fewer preschool age children as gifted when the criterion was set at 1.5 standard deviations above the mean. (Author/JDD)

Investigated what abilities and objectives can be measured on practical tests. Results suggest that these tests be composed of separate parts which measure the ability to perform an experiment and the ability to interpret and analyze an experiment. The effects of ability grouping on the achievement and self-esteem of fourth-grade students were assessed through regression-discontinuity analysis. Standardized achievement test scores showed an increase in the high ability students after one year. No significant differences were assessed in self-esteem. (Author/DF)
