A new inventory for examining the first six of Erikson's psychosocial stages is described. It is concluded that the Erikson Psychosocial Stage Inventory (EPSI), a self-report questionnaire, is a useful measure for researchers interested in development from early adolescence and in mapping changes as a function of life events. Adapted the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test to facilitate administration to low-functioning autistic children who do not have a pointing response. Autistic (N=10) and preschool-aged children (N=20) were given the standard form and the adapted form. Results supported the use of the published norms for the adapted version. (Author/RC)

The purpose of this research was to develop a self-concept scale for gifted students which focused on gifted children's talents and abilities and associated or related behaviors. Preliminary development analyses for 224 gifted girls and 188 boys in Grades 3 through 6 indicate promising reliability and possibly good validity. (Author/SJL)

Total errors served as the criterion, and combined errors from the first four subtests served as the predictor. Correlation coefficients of .89 and .88 were obtained in validation and cross-validation phases. The first four subtests provide a suitable, stable estimate of the total score in this population. The purpose of this study was to investigate the structure of motor proficiency in a sample of 765 children between the ages of 4 1/2 to 14 1/2 years. The study was conducted as one aspect of the standardization of a motor proficiency scale, the Bruininks-Oseretsky Test of Motor Proficiency. (Author/SJL)

Computer simulations were employed to investigate sample sizes needed for item analysis when one's primary purpose is to rank order items in terms of indices of quality or to compare indices of quality against a fixed criterion.
