Moran, Mary Ross; And Others – Educational Measurement: Issues and Practice, 1991
Practices identified by experts as critical variables in eliciting writing samples were checked against 12 randomly selected studies using holistic ratings to derive descriptions of inferential statistical results for described samples. The studies often lacked precise information about these variables, limiting understanding of writing evaluation…

Britton, Bruce K.; Gulgoz, Sami – Journal of Educational Psychology, 1991
Principles of W. Kintsch's reading comprehension model (1978, 1980) were used to revise an expository text. Two experiments with 170 undergraduates and 125 Air Force recruits indicated that the principled revision conveyed the author's intentions better than the original text, suggesting the model's use for text improvement. Anderson, Doug – Studies in Philosophy and Education, 2005
Drawing on Charles Peirce's descriptions of his correspondence course on the "Art of Reasoning," I argue that Peirce believed that the study of logic stands at the center of a liberal arts education. Lucas, Samuel R.; Beresford, Lauren – Review of Research in Education, 2010
Education names and classifies individuals. This result seems unavoidable. For example, some students will graduate, and some will not. Those who graduate will be "graduates"; those who do not graduate will be labeled otherwise. The only way to avoid such labeling is to fail to make distinctions of any kind. Yet education is rife with…
