Hembling, David W. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1984
Used a programmable Hewlett-Packard scientific calculator to rapidly convert raw scores from adolescent MMPI protocols to T scores, scale by scale. The K factor is handled, as needed, automatically. Complete scoring and profiling of the R-form MMPI can be done in less than 10 minutes. (Author/JAC)

Pierce, Robyn – International Group for the Psychology of Mathematics Education, 2005
The study of linear functions is important as it provides students with their first experience of identifying and interpreting the relationship between two dependent variables. This paper, which builds on previous research, reports a study undertaken with 64 year 9 students from two Australian schools. Linear functions were introduced to these…

Zoltek, S. M.; Dick, S. S. – 1997
This paper presents teaching strategies and examples developed for a two-semester sequence in quantitative problem solving, specifically outlining a non-calculus derivation of linear regression formulas supported by the graphical display of the TI-83 calculator to visualize the minimization of the sum-squared vertical distances. The paper…

Haury, David L. – 2001
This digest provides a guide to improving student achievement in mathematics education and suggests resources for further study. It provides recommendations for the classroom and is a companion piece to "Improving Student Achievement in Mathematics, Part I: Research Findings." Recommendations include that students can learn both concepts…

Burke, Garfield, Jr. – 2001
A position statement on the use of calculators was published in 1991 in which the NCTM (National Council of Teachers of Mathematics) strongly urged that calculator usage be promoted by school districts, teachers at every level, authors, and educators. In the 2000 publication of Principles and Standards for School Mathematics, NCTM noted that…

Perera, Vic – 2002
This paper presents some ideas on how to utilize TI-83 Plus calculators to perform division of one polynomial (the divided) by another polynomial (the divisor) and how that procedure might be incorporated into a college algebra lesson. Four ways to obtain the quotient and remainder when dividing a polynomial by a first-degree polynomial are…

Grouws, Douglas A.; Cebulla, Kristin J. – 2000
This digest summarizes research findings on best teacher practices in mathematics education. Among the findings are: students can learn both concepts and skills by solving problems; whole-class discussion following individual and group work improves student achievement; and using calculators in the learning of mathematics can result in increased…

Ryan, Walter F. – 1999
This study extended over three months and involved 344 subjects. It compared the performance and attitudes of seventh-grade students taught geometry using the TI-92 calculator and a supplementary activity manual written to be used with the TI-92 calculator with the performance and attitudes of students using the traditional approach. On a…
