Peer reviewedKogan, Nathan; And Others – Monographs of the Society for Research in Child Development, 1980
This monograph describes the development of the Metaphoric Triads Task (MTT), an instrument designed to assess metaphoric comprehension. Peer reviewedWeiner, Max; Zibrin, Mara – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1979
Five standardized tests of reading achievement were administered to community college freshmen. Students took two different tests on consecutive days. Grade-equivalent scores on tests were compared. Differences were found between tests based on the number of students who reached the criterion score of grade-equivalent 11 or 12. (Author/CTM)

Peer reviewedBoersma, Frederic J.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1979
The Student's Perception of Ability Scale (SPAS) was developed for use with students in grades 3 to 6. The test was determined to have relatively high reliability and reasonably strong validity. Data showed SPAS clearly differentiates between learning disabled and non-learning-disabled students. (Author/CTM)

Peer reviewedRust, James O.; Lose, Betti D. – Psychology in the Schools, 1980
All variables except the Slosson Intelligence Test were poor predictors of Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (Revised) intelligence scores. A moderate correlation was found between verbal and full scale IQ scores and a lower relationship between performance IQ scores on the two scales. Results may be culture specific. (Author/JAC)

Peer reviewedCrofoot, M.J.; Bennett, T.S. – Psychology in the Schools, 1980
Slosson Intelligence Test scores are the best predictor of Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (Revised) (WISC-R) IQ scores. But they are often higher than WISC-R scores and increasingly verbally weighted. A skilled teacher's classroom observation is as valid an indicator of need for in-depth assessment as screening tests. (JAC)

Peer reviewedStewart, Abigail J. – Psychology of Women Quarterly, 1980
Marriage, achievement need, children and self-definition predicted negative career persistence and career activity patterns in some family situations. Self-definition was associated with professional career activity among unconstrained women, but with freelance activity among married mothers. Personality variables may predict behavior within broad…

Descriptors: Blindness, Cognitive Development, Cognitive Tests, Concept Formation
Peer reviewedReiff, Judith C. – College Student Journal, 1980
Describes the Teacher Performance Assessment Instruments, used to analyze teaching competencies essential to effective teaching. Peer reviewedEckman, Bruce K. – ETC: A Review of General Semantics, 1978
Argues that general semantics research into prejudice has made only minor contributions to an understanding of prejudice because of weak experimental designs. Suggests improvements in research methodology and urges that knowledge of the semantic world of minority groups be sought as a prerequisite to eliminating cultural bias in standardized…

Peer reviewedSmall, Arnold C.; And Others – Journal of Personality Assessment, 1979
The Bem Sex-Role Inventory and Heilbrun Masculinity and Femininity Scales were compared. Peer reviewedHodapp, Albert F.; Hodapp, Joan B. – Psychology in the Schools, 1980
PPVT and WISC-R scores were compared for students ranging in age from 6 to 16. In descending order, Pearson product correlations ranked best for the total sample, emotionally disabled, regular class, mentally retarded, and learning disabled. The PPCT overestimated ability. (Author)
