This paper examines role attitude-behavior congruence for seven family roles. Findings based on data from 1154 married men and women indicate where role attitude-behavior incongruence exists, both married men and women express egalitarian role attitudes, but this egalitarianism is not generally reflected in role behaviors. Hypotheses about sex differences and inter-social role and intra-work role conflict were tested in a university setting. Results indicate that inter-role conflict is primarily a function of the number of social roles held. There was no number of social roles by sex interaction. (Author)
