Peer reviewedFortney, Virginia L. – Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport, 1983
The running patterns of two-, four-, and six-year-old children were analyzed to determine how age and sex differences affected selected kinematic and kinetic variables. Differences tended to involve displacement, velocity, and magnitude of force measures. Sex differences concerning the leg swing were noted. (Author/PP)
Descriptors: Age Differences, Biomechanics, Elementary Education, Human Body
Peer reviewedSkeen, Judith A.; And Others – Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1982
A comparison was made of the performance of 30 learning-disabled students on the Bender Visual-Motor Gestalt Test and the Beery Developmental Test of Visual Motor Integration. A significant correlation of -.72 was obtained. No significant difference was found in estimations of age equivalents. (Author)
Descriptors: Children, Comparative Analysis, Correlation, Elementary Education
Mulligan, Marilyn; And Others – Journal of the Association for the Severely Handicapped (JASH), 1980
The effects of massed, distributed, and spaced trials sequencing on the learning of handicapped and nonhandicapped individuals for both cognitive and motor tasks are discussed. Implications for the application of the research findings to the classroom for the severely handicapped individual are presented. (Author)

Peer reviewedGabert, Trent E.; And Others – Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1982
Sixty six-to eight-year-olds with below-average scores on three balance tests received active, passive or no vestibular stimulation over a five-week period. Balance scores improved for all groups on one or more tests. Improvement could not be related to vestibular stimulation. (Author/RD)

Peer reviewedWeiss, Maureen R. – Journal of Physical Education, Recreation & Dance, 1982
This article discusses the critical developmental factors in the modeling of motor skills and suggests practical implications for teachers of young children. Major factors for successful modeling involve the students' cognitive-developmental level and the students' motivational orientation. CJ)

Peer reviewedCharlop, Marjorie; Atwell, Constance W. – Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1980
Described is the development and validation of the Charlop-Atwell Scale of Motor Coordination, which is designed to measure some aspects of the gross motor coordination of children between the ages of 4 and 6 years. The test itself and the scoring ranges for boys and girls are appended. (Author/SJL)
Descriptors: Motor Development, Perceptual Motor Coordination, Preschool Education, Psychomotor Skills
Schutz, Robert W. – Research Quarterly, 1980
There are many areas within sport studies that require using mathematical analyses, which would foster a fuller understanding of the structure and strategy of sport and the development of quantitatively viable theories of motor development. (CJ)
Descriptors: Athletics, Educational Research, Higher Education, Motor Development
Anshel, Mark H.; Singer, Robert N. – Research Quarterly, 1980
Findings support the use of learning modules and learner strategies in the learning and remembering of complex gross motor skills. Strategy usage may have a positive effect on motor skill acquisition but not necessarily on retention. (CJ)
Descriptors: Learning Modules, Learning Processes, Motor Development, Perceptual Motor Coordination
