Undergraduates were pretested with general and specific trait anxiety measures and later exposed to situations involving a rat, a test, and social anxiety. During the interview, both components of anxeity (worry and emotionality) were affected by expectancy conditions, and emotionality was higher for high- than for low-social-avoidance-and-distress subjects. Investigates the differential adjustment of men and women during the process of marital separation. Prior to separation, women reported significantly more severe psychological symptoms. Studied the relationship between premarital sexual guilt and contraceptive attitudes and behavior among young single women. High-guilt subjects were significantly more embarrassed about coming to the birth control clinics and were more likely to believe that it was difficult to obtain birth control. (Author)

Ninety-two athletes and 93 nonathletes completed the Illinois Competition Questionnaire measuring trait anxiety in competitive sports situations and the Rotter I-E scale measuring locus of control.
