Peer reviewedThomas, David A. – Journal of Computers in Mathematics and Science Teaching, 1990
Described is an approach to computational matrix algebra that takes advantage of a high quality, low cost microcomputer software package. The examples and applications discussed focus on matrix multiplication. (Author/CW)
Descriptors: Algebra, College Mathematics, Computation, Computer Assisted Instruction
Norton, James R. – Performance and Instruction, 1990
Describes a Training Program Evaluation Matrix that can be used for both formative and summative program evaluation. Elements of the matrix include students; instructors; instructional materials; evaluation instruments and procedures; success criteria; evaluator; evaluation report preparer; and evaluation report audience. (LRW)
Descriptors: Evaluation Criteria, Evaluation Methods, Formative Evaluation, Industrial Training
Peer reviewedRobinson, Daniel H.; Schraw, Gregory – Contemporary Educational Psychology, 1994
Three experiments involving 138 college students investigated why one type of graphic organizer (a matrix) may communicate interconcept relations better than an outline or text. Results suggest that a matrix is more computationally efficient than either outline or text, allowing the easier computation of relationships. (SLD)
Descriptors: College Students, Communication (Thought Transfer), Computation, Efficiency
Peer reviewedBarry, Donald – Mathematics Teacher, 1992
Presents 14 distinct methods to determine the sine of the angle formed by the line segments joining one vertex of a square to the midpoints of the nonadjacent sides. Nine methods were developed by mathematics club participants preparing for mathematics competitions and the remaining five by faculty members. (MDH)
Descriptors: Geometric Concepts, Geometry, High Schools, Mathematics Education
Peer reviewedEdwards, Lynne K. – Journal of Educational Statistics, 1991
When repeated observations are taken at equal time intervals, a simple form of a stationary time series structure may be fitted to the observations. Use of correction factors is discussed. A computer simulation method is used to investigate power advantages of fitting a serial correlation pattern to repeated observations. (TJH)
Descriptors: Computer Simulation, Error of Measurement, Goodness of Fit, Longitudinal Studies
Peer reviewedUlosevich, Steven N.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1991
A correlation matrix of 21 structure-of-intellect (SOI) tests taken by 204 Marine officers at a military base in Southern California, which was intended to reflect aptitudes for military leadership, was reanalyzed through exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory maximum likelihood factor analysis. Higher order factors appeared to have…

Peer reviewedHiggins, Norma; Rice, Elizabeth – Educational Technology, Research and Development, 1991
Describes a study that was designed to gather information about teachers' perspectives on achievement testing and to describe where the competency-based testing in the CUES (Continuous Uniform Evaluation System) program fits into the teachers' overall plans for teaching and assessing students. Recommendations for instructional design and teacher…
Descriptors: Achievement Tests, Classification, Classroom Observation Techniques, Instructional Design
Peer reviewedPaton, Ray – Journal of Biological Education, 1990
Two properties of a wing, namely aspect ratio and wing loading, are described and the matrix approach is used to make certain deductions about particular wing plans. Some examples are provided which show how the matrix transformation of one wing plan into another brings about predictable changes in wing properties. (KR)
Descriptors: Algebra, Aviation Technology, Biology, Birds
Peer reviewedMoore, Nick – Journal of Information Science, 1998
Analyzes British information policy using a matrix identifying industrial, organizational, and social levels of policy, and cross-cutting themes: information technology, information markets, human resources, and legislation and regulation. Argues that though Britain's various initiatives add up to a national strategy, it lacks coordination and…

Peer reviewedSreenivasulu, V. – Online & CD-ROM Review, 1998
Discusses computer literacy and information literacy needed for the future and presents a matrix that shows the required literacy needed for various knowledge bases, including software, the Internet, CD-ROMs, and multimedia. Considers paradigm shifts including paper to electronic media, the demand for accountability, and new forms of organization.…

Peer reviewedLiu, Geoffrey Z. – Journal of the American Society for Information Science, 1997
Presents the Semantic Vector Space Model, a text representation and searching technique based on the combination of Vector Space Model with heuristic syntax parsing and distributed representation of semantic case structures. In this model, both documents and queries are represented as semantic matrices, and retrieval is achieved by computing…

Chong, Philip S.; Runyon, Lowell R. – International Journal of Educational Management, 2004
In searching for a new budget formula for the College of Business at California State University at Long Beach, a major university in the west, several rational budget formulas were explored. This report develops an explanation in quantitative terms of the reasoning process pursued by the department chairs in arriving at the compromise budget…

Cullinane, Michael J. – PRIMUS, 2005
Mathematics majors' study of abstract algebra should provide these students with opportunities to connect what they are learning to their prior experiences with algebra in high school. This paper illustrates how such connections can be used to motivate the notion of binary operation and the axioms for a group.

Savin, Mary C.; Longer, David; Miller, David M. – Journal of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Education, 2005
Undergraduate curricula for natural resource and agronomic programs have been introduced and revised during the past several decades with a desire to stay current with emerging issues and technologies relevant to constituents. For the past decade, the Department of Crop, Soil, and Environmental Sciences (CSES) faculty at the University of Arkansas…

Walleri, R. Dan; Stoering, Juliette M. – 1996
In response to increasing assessment and accountability requirements, Mt. Hood Community College, in Oregon, developed an assessment matrix specifying major accountability requirements and established a calendar to help departments understand the necessary sequences for fulfilling these requirements. The matrix lists the various measures or…
