Stockard, James W., Jr. – PTA Today, 1988
Intelligence Quotient scores are only predictors of performance, not precise measures of intelligence. They are most useful in conjunction with other assessments of potential such as achievement tests and daily performance. An explanation of how scores are derived and a brief history of IQ testing are included. (IAH)

Smith, Douglas K.; And Others – Journal of Learning Disabilities, 1988
Comparison of scores on the Kaufman Assessment Battery for Children and the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised of 67 students (ages 6-12) referred for possible learning disabilities found strong relationships among all the global standard scores on both instruments with different score patterns for those with severe disabilities.…

D'Amato, Rik Carl; And Others – Journal of School Psychology, 1988
Investigated the overlap between the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children - Revised (WISC-R) and the Halstead-Reitan Neuropsychological Battery (HRNB) in light of their use in diagnosing children's learning problems using scores for children (N=1,181) on the WISC-R and the HRNB. Results showed primary overlap between measures was attributed to…

Salvia, John; And Others – Journal of Learning Disabilities, 1988
Among findings of a comparison of 74 learning disabled college freshmen and non-handicapped peers on the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale--Revised, were no significant differences between verbal and performance scale discrepancies, more variable subtest performances by LD students, and lower mean scores by LD students. Skuder, Patricia; And Others – Intelligence, 1995
Of 100 DNA markers examined in an allelic association study, only 1 showed a replicated association with IQ in samples totaling 107 children. How the gene marked by the particular restriction fragment length polymorphism was tracked and its mitochondrial origin identified is described. (SLD)

Plomin, Robert; And Others – Intelligence, 1995
For DNA markers in or near genes of neurological relevance, allelic frequencies were compared for groups of high- and low-IQ children (total sample of 86). This study adds 40 markers to the 60 already studied. Only one showed a significant association with IQ in original and replication samples. (SLD)

Embretson, Susan E. – Intelligence, 1995
The impact of general control processing and working memory capacity on a measure of abstract intelligence was examined with 577 military recruits. A new multicomponent latent trait model for covert response was applied to item response data for matrix problems. General control processing has a stronger impact. (SLD)

Reich, Jill N.; And Others – Psychology in the Schools, 1993
Compared high-risk (n=20) versus low-risk (n=15) children in their performance on Wechsler Preschool Primary Intelligence Scale at pre- and postkindergarten levels. High-risk group had, at birth, experienced prematurity and/or illness. Both groups demonstrated increases in performance: high-risk children showed increases predominantly in…

Atkinson, Leslie; And Others – Journal of School Psychology, 1992
For 24 developmentally delayed children tested, correlations between Stanford-Binet Intelligence Scale, Fourth Edition (SB:4) and Leiter International Performance Scale (LIPS) global scores was high (r=.78). In seven cases, intraindividual discrepancies were large and significant. SB:4 and LIPS global scores correlated with Vineland Adaptive…

Katz, Lynda; Goldstein, Gerald – Rehabilitation Counseling Bulletin, 1993
Compared intellectual (Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale for Adults-Revised) and neuropsychological (Luria-Nebraska Neuropsychological Battery) assessment as valid methods of identifying learning disabilities in adults. Findings from 155 subjects revealed that both instruments were able to distinguish adults with and without learning disabilities.…

Atkinson, Leslie – Journal of School Psychology, 1991
Administered 2-, 4-, and 6-subtest Stanford-Binet (Fourth Edition) short forms to 53 children (ages 6-10) with Total Composite (TC) Standard Age Score (SAS) under 79. Compared prorated Partial Composite SASs based on subtests with TC SASs. Six subtests correlated with TC SAS; only one six-subtest short form accurately approximated TC SAS at level…

Hale, William H., III; And Others – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1993
Examined relation between Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS) and Wilson predictor of premorbid intelligence scores of 27 depressed and 34 nondepressed psychiatric patients. Found no significant difference between WAIS and Wilson predictor of premorbid intelligence scores nor between Verbal and Performance intelligence quotients. (Author/NB)

Thompson, Anthony P.; Molly, Karen – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1993
Investigated stability of Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-Revised intelligence quotients (IQs) for 52 high school students. One-half of subjects were retested after 3 months; other half after 18 months. Stability coefficients were uniformly high for both retest intervals. IQs for males retested after 18 months increased beyond practice effect.…
