National Health Survey data of 12- to 17-year-olds were used to determine links between dating behavior and level of sexual maturation as well as age. Structure and construct validity of the California Preschool Social Competency Scale was investigated. Five factors were interpreted: considerateness; extraversion; task orientation; verbal facility; and response to the unfamiliar. Male relationships are more likely to be based on enjoyable companionship and similarity in attitudes.
