Walsh, John; Winne, Philip H. – Journal of Educational Psychology, 1980
Data in Yarworth and Gauthier's article on student self- concept and participation in school activities (EJ 189 606) were reanalyzed by Walsh and Winne (TM 505 375). Yarworth and Gauthier's criticism of the reanalysis (TM 505 376) is answered. (GDC)

Igra, Amnon – Sociological Methods and Research, 1980
Three methods of estimating a model of school effects are compared: ordinary least squares; an approach based on the analysis of covariance; and, a residualized input-output approach. Results are presented using a matrix algebra formulation, and advantages of the first two methods are considered. (Author/GK)

Aldridge, Michelle; Waddon, Alun – Language Awareness, 1995
Results of a survey of 200 parents attending baby and child clinics in North Wales show that parents know less about language development than about other areas of child development. Results suggest that both monolingual and bilingual parents and their children would benefit from improved information on how to facilitate language development. (43…

Gierut, Judith A. – Journal of Child Language, 1996
Evaluates the principle of laryngeal-supralaryngeal cyclicity by manipulating the domain cycle and phase relationship of the cycle as independent variables and by monitoring longitudinally the order of emergent phonemic distinctions in the sound systems of seven children with phonological delays as the dependent variable. Findings are discussed.…

Allen, Shanley E. M.; Crago, Martha B. – Journal of Child Language, 1996
Presents data from 4 Inuit children ages 2;0 to 3;6 that shows relatively early acquisition of both simple and complex forms of the passive. Within this age range, children are productively producing truncated, full, action, and experiential passive. Reasons for this precociousness, including adult input and language structure, are explored. (56…

Weitzendorf, Thomas; Hiller, Harald – Review of Information Science, 1996
Discusses the correlation between corporate performance and the use of information technology. Tests a model that was based on management information systems literature. Examines system effectiveness, user information satisfaction, organizational conversion, top management commitment, and organizational climate. Discusses testing in Austrian and…

DeKeyser, Robert M. – Studies in Second Language Acquisition, 1997
Presents a fine-grained analysis of extensive empirical data on the automatization of explicitly learned rules of morphosyntax in a second language. Results indicate that the learning of morphosyntactic rules is highly skill-specific and that these skills develop gradually over time, adhering to the same power function learning curve as the…

Omalza, Sally; And Others – Primary Voices K-6, 1997
Relates how two elementary school teachers were part of a research group that met one day a week at their schools to learn about the "hypothesis-test" process. Discusses the philosophical underpinnings of the approach and describes the four-step recursive process itself, consisting of observations, interpretations, hypothesis, and curricular…

Yoshizawa, Dianne – Primary Voices K-6, 1997
Illustrates the "hypothesis-test" teaching approach with one kindergarten student. Notes that it was the author's stepping back to watch for multiple interpretations of her observations of Jaime's behavior that gave Jaime space to think, to use his voice to make connections, and to grow. (SR)

Hannafin, Michael J. – Canadian Journal of Educational Communication, 1989
Reviews traditional functions of interaction in computer-based instruction (CBI); describes quantitative and qualitative perspectives on interaction strategies; discusses design-centered and learner-centered interaction; and presents methods for promoting cognitive engagement via mathemagenic and generative interaction strategies, including…

Colliver, Jerry A.; And Others – Evaluation and the Health Professions, 1990
Standardized patient case problems were administered to approximately 280 final year medical students. Results indicate that performance on a given component of clinical competence shows less consistency when measured on different cases than does performance on different components measured on the same case. (TJH)

Tatsuoka, Kikumi K.; And Others – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1989
The consistency with which students apply procedural rules for solving signed-number operations across identical items presented in different orders was examined in a study involving 161 eighth graders. Inconsistent rule application was common among students who had not mastered signed-number arithmetic operations. (TJH)

Hakstian, A. Ralph; And Others – Psychometrika, 1988
A model and computation procedure based on classical test score theory are presented for determination of a correlation coefficient corrected for attenuation due to unreliability. Delta and Monte Carlo method applications are discussed. A power analysis revealed no serious loss in efficiency resulting from correction for attentuation. (TJH)

Campbell, N. Jo – Journal of Educational Computing Research, 1989
Describes study that was conducted to investigate the effects of sex and school level on the computer anxiety of rural middle school and secondary school students when home availability and school use of computers were controlled. Use of the Computer Anxiety Scale is described, and implications for computer implementation are suggested. (34…
