De Champlain, Andre F. – 1999
The purpose of this study was to examine empirical Type I error rates and rejection rates for three dimensionality assessment procedures with data sets simulated to reflect short tests and small samples. The TESTFACT G superscript 2 difference test suffered from an inflated Type I error rate with unidimensional data sets, while the approximate chi…

Descriptors: Algebra, Instruction, Mathematical Concepts, Mathematical Enrichment
Peer reviewedJohnson, Clare F. – Mathematics and Computer Education, 1982
The introduction of computer use in college mathematics classes for non-mathematics oriented students majoring in marketing, management, and other business-related fields is discussed. Results of a questionnaire of student opinions matched with pupil course grades is presented. It is noted students as a whole seemed satisfied with computer use.…

Peer reviewedSalton, G. – Information Processing and Management, 1980
Summarizes studies of pseudoclassification, a process of utilizing user relevance assessments of certain documents with respect to certain queries to build term classes designed to retrieve relevant documents. Conclusions are reached concerning the effectiveness and feasibility of constructing term classifications based on human relevance…

Peer reviewedChan, Wai; Bentler, Peter M. – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1996
A method is proposed for partially analyzing additive ipsative data (PAID). Transforming the PAID according to a developed equation preserves the density of the transformed data, and maximum likelihood estimation can be carried out as usual. Simulation results show that the original structural parameters can be accurately estimated from PAID. (SLD)

Peer reviewedBeck, Mark W. – Planning for Higher Education, 1989
The most difficult task for campus planners is making site selection recommendations based on qualitative facts that cannot be compared to each other. Any means of alternative site evaluation should include a flexible system of comparing such far-ranging criteria as visual impact, access to parking, and site development cost. (MLW)

Peer reviewedChen Shyuefee, Agnes; Michael, William B. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1993
Confirmatory maximum likelihood factor analysis determined how accurately each of several hypothesized combinations of first-order and higher-order factors reflecting creativity in the social intelligence of 192 high school students described the covariation in selected submatrixes from the total correlation matrix originally analyzed. Results…

Peer reviewedBecker, Betsy Jane – Journal of Educational Statistics, 1992
Combining information to estimate standardized partial regression coefficients in a linear model is discussed. A combined estimate obtained from the pooled correlation matrix is proposed, and its large sample distribution is obtained. The method is generalized to handle a random effects model in which correlation parameters vary across studies.…

Peer reviewedSartorius, Rolf H. – Evaluation Practice, 1991
The Logical Framework (LogFrame) approach to project design and management is introduced for planners, evaluators, and project managers. Lessons learned from its international use, and applications of LogFrame and its computer software package are discussed. This flexible tool can improve project planning and design for almost any project. (SLD)

Peer reviewedAnderson, Beverly L. – Educational Leadership, 1993
Presents a matrix-continuum of systemic change defining six developmental stages (old system maintenance, awareness, exploration, transition, emerging new infrastructure, and predominating new system) and six key change elements (vision, public and political support, networking, teaching and learning changes, administrative roles and…

Peer reviewedFlora, Stephen R.; Pavlik, William B. – Teaching of Psychology, 1990
Contends that, although the operant approach to psychology is based on objective empirical observations, much of psychology is filled with subjective, interpretive terminology. Argues that such terminology produces confusion over the definitions of basic operant concepts. Suggests a solution that defines the concepts of positive and negative…

Twitchell, David, Ed. – Educational Technology, 1990
This third in a series of edited transcripts based on a conference at Utah State University describes Merrill's Component Design Theory (CDT) and compares it to his earlier Component Display Theory. Topics discussed include concept structures, knowledge acquisition, components of an instructional design system, and a new CDT matrix. (10…

Beaudin, Bart P.; Williams, Richard E. – Performance and Instruction, 1990
Discusses the role of meetings in improving job performance, identifies adult learning principles that may enhance the planning and delivery of business meetings, describes the component parts of business meetings, and presents a matrix that integrates adult learning principles with the management of business meetings. (Six references) (LRW)
Descriptors: Adult Learning, Cognitive Style, Feedback, Job Performance
Peer reviewedDoreian, Patrick – Information Processing and Management, 1994
Discusses the use of citation networks for constructing measures of the relative standing of journals in scientific journal-to-journal networks. Topics addressed include eigenvectors; measuring the standing of national scientific communities; and an empirical comparison of two measures of standing, one considering the environment and one without…

Peer reviewedBaker, Frank B. – Applied Psychological Measurement, 1993
Using simulation, the effect that misspecification of elements in the weight matrix has on estimates of basic parameters of the linear logistic test model was studied. Results indicate that, because specifying elements of the weight matrix is a subjective process, it must be done with great care. (SLD)
