Kiewra, Kenneth A.; Kauffman, Douglas F.; Robinson, Daniel H.; DuBois, Nelson F.; Staley, Richard K. – Instructional Science, 1999
Describes three experiments with college students that compared the learning potential of text, outline, and matrix displays. Explains the theoretical framework, reviews related research, and discusses results that show matrix displays produced greater relational learning. (Author/LRW)

Thomas, Neal; Gan, Nianci – Journal of Educational and Behavioral Statistics, 1997
Describes and assesses missing data methods currently used to analyze data from matrix sampling designs implemented by the National Assessment of Educational Progress. Several improved methods are developed, and these models are evaluated using an EM algorithm to obtain maximum likelihood estimates followed by multiple imputation of complete data…

Bond, Charles F., Jr.; Lashley, Brian R. – Psychometrika, 1996
The Social Relations model of D. A. Kenny estimates variances and covariances from a round-robin of two-person interactions. This paper presents a matrix formulation of the Social Relations model, using the formulation to derive exact and estimated standard errors for round-robin estimates of Social Relations parameters. (SLD)

Mills, Steven C.; Ragan, Tillman J. – Educational Technology Research and Development, 2000
Discussion of computer implementation and computer technology integration in classrooms focuses on a study that developed and validated a measure for examining the quality of implementation of an integrated learning system (ILS). Explains the Concerns Based Adoption Model and identifies implementation practices of teachers that indicated…

Pollock, D. S. G. – International Journal of Mathematical Education in Science and Technology, 2002
This paper sets forth some salient results in the algebra of circulant matrices which can be used in time-series analysis. It provides easy derivations of some results that are central to the analysis of statistical periodograms and empirical spectral density functions. A statistical test for the stationarity or homogeneity of empirical processes…

Peel, Jennifer L.; And Others – 1992
The goal of the present study was to examine scenarios for using two schematic organizers, schematic knowledge maps and conceptual matrices, in integrating episodic and semantic knowledge about alcohol. Seventy students (36 males and 34 females) from undergraduate general psychology classes participated for course credit. Participants were…

Marth, Joseph; And Others – 1994
Managers and program sponsors are often unaware of possible alternatives to costly training evaluation procedures and do not have criteria for selecting alternatives. What is needed is an understanding of the various levels of evaluating training programs, feasible alternatives, and decision criteria for choosing the right system. It is proposed…

Swain, A. J. – Psychometrika, 1975
Considers a class of estimation procedures for the factor model. The procedures are shown to yield estimates possessing the same asymptotic sampling properties as those from estimation by maximum likelihood or generalized last squares, both special members of the class. General expressions for the derivatives needed for Newton-Raphson…

Maor, Eli – International Journal of Mathematical Education in Science and Technology, 1974
An interpretation of the transformation formulas for rotations in a plane in terms of the exponential function is given. Addition of two rotations is shown to correspond to the multiplication of the two corresponding matrices. (Author/LS)

Conger, Anthony J. – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1974
Two indices of profile reliability are shown to be equivalent in terms of the individual independent canonical composites; however, because of different weighting procedures, they yield different overall indices of profile reliability. A common formula is provided from which both indices can be derived. (Author)

Norman, Max C. – Australian Mathematics Teacher, 1973
A game is presented in which computation by a stepping-stone method is used to solve minimax problems. An additional application of this game is used for finding the Pearson correlation coefficient by non-parametric techniques. The game provides considerable computational practice as well as a motivational problem solving situation. (JP)
