Rates of negative interactions immediately decreased during recess periods in which three male students (age 7) monitored their first-grade classmates' play behavior by awarding or withdrawing points. These and related results suggest that appointment to the role of peer monitor may itself function as an intervention. (Author/JW)

Structured empathy training was found to (1) cause significant changes in pharmacy students' ability to respond empathetically to clients and (2) reduce evaluative, falsely reassuring, and questioning responses. Examined the effects of symbolic modeling in changing sharing behavior and knowledge in 48 nursery-kindergarten children. The modeling group compared to controls shared more, increased sharing behavior over time, and acquired more knowledge about sharing. Findings support the efficacy of models in book and slide formats for young children. (NRB)

A study was conducted at a large midwestern university to assess effectiveness of health behavior contracts for students enrolled in a personal health course. Assessed the effectiveness of the Utah State University Self Concept Protocol in changing teacher behaviors related to self-concept in 715 handicapped students mainstreamed in intermediate grade classrooms.
