Argues against W.D. Hudson's definition of education which involves a rational approach to socialization. Suggests that Hudson formulated his definition to justify religious indoctrination as a part of the educational process and concludes that the definition abandons the knowledge and value criteria of education. Predicted that subgroups of British delinquents would have poorer self-concepts than matched nondelinquents. The hypothesis was supported with regard to five self-concept aspects: moral, physical, family, social, and total self-concept.
