The development of the relationship between mothers and their infants was investigated at the child's 10th, 22nd, and 42nd month of age. National survey data were utilized to measure differences in self-perception, motivation, and social support through seven stages of the family life cycle. Examined the relation between value system similarity of spouses and marital adjustment. Results indicated that value similarity was only peripherally related to the level of marital adjustment. However, spouse value similarity appeared to have a significant impact upon adjustment in the later years of marriage. (Author)
