Pierson, Max E. – 1976
This study is one attempt to determine the size and nature of the fiscal reform the Illinois legislature must bring about in order to fulfill the requirements of Article IX, Section 5 of the Illinois Constitution of 1970 that calls for the abolishment of personal property taxes. Chapters discuss the legislative intent of the article and present a…

Peer reviewedOwen, John D. – Monthly Labor Review, 1978
Part-time workers are usually relegated to low-paying jobs, which accounts for their lower earning rates. The article gives reasons for this situation, and analyzes the gain in workers' hourly earnings from additional education and experience. (MF)
Descriptors: Educational Background, Employment Experience, Employment Patterns, Labor Market
Peer reviewedSweetser, Dorrian Apple; McDonnell, Patrick – American Journal of Sociology, 1978
A statistical analysis of the degree to which family groups benefit from occupational opportunities afforded through education, as contrasted with individual benefit. Presents data from Australia and Norway. (Author/AV)
Descriptors: Comparative Analysis, Comparative Education, Educational Background, Educational Benefits
Peer reviewedHumphreys, Lloyd G. – Intelligence, 1978
In studies of the relationship between masculinity-femininity and intelligence, data should be analyzed using correlational analysis for the complete distribution, rather than analysis of variance of extreme groups. The earlier work of Baucom and Welsh (EJ 171 822) was used as illustration. (BW)
Descriptors: Analysis of Variance, Correlation, Femininity, Higher Education
Peer reviewedBaucom, Donald H.; Welsh, George S. – Intelligence, 1978
Humphreys' criticisms (TM 503 269) of the work of Welsh and Baucom (EJ 171 822) are inappropriate since his findings are based upon a different measure of masculinity-femininity and a population which is somewhat different. Also, his insistence on correlational analysis to the exclusion of extreme group design is viewed as inappropriately…

Peer reviewedRakow, Ernest A.; And Others – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1978
This study estimated a component of within-school variance which has been overlooked in policy research studies and program evaluations performed to date: the effect on pupil performance of different teachers within a single school or program. Results indicated that teacher effects accounted for 30 to 40 percent of within-school variance. (Author/…

Bentler, Peter M.; Woodward, J. Arthur – Evaluation Quarterly, 1978
The Head Start data analyzed by Magidson (1977) were reanalyzed using Joreskog's (1976) LISREL computer program methodology. The hypothesis that the Head Start program produced zero effects on the cognitive abilities of its participants was evaluated by several Chi Square tests. In all cases, the null hypothesis could not be rejected. (Author/CTM)
Descriptors: Analysis of Covariance, Computer Programs, Evaluation Methods, Mathematical Models
Magidson, Jay – Evaluation Quarterly, 1978
In a reply to the previous article (TM 503 435), Magidson disparages the arbitrary application of the .05 significance level to these data, responds to several assertions, and provides additional data in support of his original article showing positive effects for Project Head Start. (CTM)

Abramson, Paul – American School and University, 1978
Part two of the annual cost report shows how school construction dollars were spent. (Author/MLF)
Descriptors: Comparative Analysis, Construction Costs, Construction Materials, Elementary Secondary Education
Peer reviewedKleinberg, Jeffrey L. – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 1976
Using Super's Career Pattern Study data, this study investigated the high-school age correlates of occupational stability and change among 148 men between the ages of 25 to 35. Only high-school grades were positively, though weakly, associated with both occupational stability and the degree of vocational progress. (Author)

Peer reviewedStewart, Kenneth D.; Jones, Elvis C. – Psychology in the Schools, 1976
Ten years of validity research concerning the Slosson Intelligence Test (SIT) is reviewed. The equivalence of the SIT to the Stanford-Binet and the Wechsler Scales is examined and the relationship of the SIT to achievement measures is described. (Author)
Descriptors: Achievement Tests, Comparative Analysis, Comparative Testing, Evaluation
Peer reviewedTorosian, George; And Others – American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education, 1978
A preliminary attempt is made in this study to generate supporting information that could give an admission committee additional insight into the validity of admission criteria currently used in colleges of pharmacy. Data from students at the University of Florida and other Florida institutions are used to predict future grade point average. (LBH)
Descriptors: Academic Achievement, Admission Criteria, College Applicants, Comparative Analysis
Peer reviewedPalmieri, Anthony, III – American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education, 1977
A model for the systematic and rapid evaluation of transfer students is presented. Transfer students are defined as having completed organic chemistry and other basic courses and are ready to enter the first professional year in a standard 2:3 program. Data for the predictor equations are from the University of Wyoming School of Pharmacy. (LBH)
Descriptors: Academic Achievement, College Transfer Students, Grade Point Average, Higher Education
Cagiano, Annette; And Others – College Board Review, 1977
A statistical look is taken at the comparative levels of achievement of a sample of returning students at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and the encouraging implications for expanded admissions and better grade prediction. (Author/LBH)
Descriptors: Academic Achievement, Admission Criteria, Adult Students, Bibliographies
Otto, E. P. – Vestes, 1977
Current policies that require students in some departments to perform to a certain standard before they can continue with their course appear to be justified on empirical grounds and seem to apply equally well to college student populations. Male and female students should be evaluated separately, suggests the author. (LBH)
