Morris, John D.; Guertin, Wilson H. – Journal of Experimental Education, 1977
Common factor scores were compared to unfactored data-level variables as predictors in terms of the correlation of a criterion with the predicted value in multiple regression equations applied to replication (cross-validation) samples. (Editor)
Descriptors: Correlation, Educational Research, Factor Analysis, Factor Structure

Trent, Curtis; Johnson, James F. – Research in Higher Education, 1977
Results of a survey of 65 graduate students suggest that students' values and attitudes play a major role in their evaluation of faculty and should be recognized by teachers when interpreting the data from such ratings. (Author/LBH)
Descriptors: College Faculty, Data Analysis, Graduate Students, Higher Education
Dyl, Edward A.; McGann, Anthony F. – Journal of Student Financial Aid, 1977
The use of discriminant analysis in identifying potentially "good" versus potentially "bad" student loans is explained. The technique is applied to a sample of 200 student loan applications at the University of Wyoming. (LBH)
Descriptors: Discriminant Analysis, Financial Support, Higher Education, Loan Repayment
Birch, D. W.; And Others – International Journal of Institutional Management in Higher Education, 1977
The potential for performance indicators for the teaching function in higher education was examined. Study of data from Lanchester Polytechnic and Loughborough University indicates that there is support for the systematic collection of data on instruction and resource utilization patterns within and across institutions. (Author/LBH)
Descriptors: Case Studies, College Instruction, Data Collection, Educational Assessment
Horch, Dwight H. – Journal of Student Financial Aid, 1976
Determination of the amount parents are expected to contribute toward the cost of postsecondary education involves several financial and nonfinancial variables of the family that influence ability to pay. Data from 45,199 records suggest that stepwise regression analysis is not effective in simplifying need analysis procedures. (LBH)
Descriptors: Family Financial Resources, Higher Education, Needs Assessment, Parent Responsibility
Raymond, Richard D. – Journal of Student Financial Aid, 1976
The probable impact of policies designed to relieve or remove the financial burden placed upon low income college students is examined. Basic causes of differences in participation rates by income class are discussed and empirical estimates based upon this discussion are presented with respect to various policy alternatives. (LBH)

Plourde, Paul J. – Planning for Higher Education, 1977
A nationwide survey of all users (400) of CAMPUS, PLANTRAN, RRPM, and SEARCH conducted in 1975 by the University of Massachusetts at Amherst examined the extent of model use and their effectiveness. This paper reports a follow-up study on user support for models and opinions of preconditions for future use. (LBH)

Summers, Anita A.; Wolfe, Barbara L. – American Economic Review, 1977
Based on a microeconometric examination of Philadelphia school district data, analyzes the impact on student achievement of pupil-specific variation in students' genetic endowment and socioeconomic status, teacher quality, nonteacher school quality, and peer group characteristics. Single copies may be purchased from Secretary, C. Elton Hinshaw,…

Brandenburg, Dale C.; And Others – Research in Higher Education, 1977
Using 3,355 class section means, the relationship between six predictor variables and student ratings of instruction was investigated. All linear interactions were found to be negligible although two predictor variables, expected grade and required-elective, provided large contributions to the prediction of the criterion measure. (Author/LBH)

Heath, Douglas H. – Journal of Higher Education, 1977
A longitudinal study of 68 college-educated men, studied when freshmen and upperclassmen and also in their early 30's, examined the academic predictors of maturity and a wide range of adult competencies. SAT scores, achievement tests, college grades, faculty ratings, and honors were related to measures of psychological immaturity. Implications for…

Schloss, Patrick J.; And Others – Journal of Educational Technology Systems, 1988
Describes study of 122 undergraduate and graduate students that contrasted the effects of two error correction procedures on student achievement when using computer assisted instruction. Analyses of variance were used to determine whether question type or error response affected subsequent responses to factual and higher cognitive questions.…

Gamache, Leann M.; Novick, Melvin R. – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1985
Differential prediction of two-year grade point average is reported for gender groups within university programs of study. Johnson-Neyman analyses indicated regions on the predictor score scales where differential prediction has practical impact for a significant portion of students. Careful selection of a subset of variables can reduce…
