Two studies are reported, each of which achieved personality change with both audiovisual self-confrontation and supportive, nondirective interviews. The first study increased Eriksonian identity achievement. The second study changed a variable that moderated effects in the first study: Tomkins' humanistic versus normative orientation. (Author)

Dormitory residents were trained in first aid procedures, and assigned to lecture-only, lecture plus modeling and rehearsal, or no-lecture groups. As predicted, lecture plus modeling and rehearsal group was superior to the lecture-only, which was superior to the no-lecture group. (NG)

Chiriboga, David A.; Cutler, Loraine – Journal of Divorce, 1977
Explores behavioral and emotional responses during the divorce process. Men and women (N=252) were interviewed about traumas and advantages associated with stages of divorce already experienced. Results only partially substantiate finding by Goode that final separation is perceived as most traumatic. (Author)

The Friendly Visitor Program was designed to reduce social isolation. Visits were made by trained visitors to 23 isolated, elderly New York City residents. For the experimental group only apartment upkeep and mental state improved and isolation diminished at the time of follow-up, indicating friendly visiting probably was therapeutic. (Author)

The exploratory visit to recent retirees, an outreach component of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union Friendly Visiting Program, was evaluated. A post-test only control group effect study revealed exploratory visits were effective in establishing a link between the program and the retiree. (Author)

Female undergraduates (N = 268) completed a questionnaire which included the Bem Sex Role Inventory and information about their mother's employment. Employed mothers who worked outside the home were found to have influenced the development of androgynous self concepts in their daughters. (Author)

This paper examines political behavior among two samples of Mexican-American elderly. The findings show that the Mexican-American elderly have relatively low rates of political activity and a sense of efficacy. Factors leading to this political behavior--fear, lack of communication, socioeconomic status--are discussed. (Author)
