The study examined the counsellor's competence in counselling clients with sexual problems. The notion of competence was operationally defined in terms of empathy, anxiety, and sex knowledge. The results demonstrate the need to have specific training in sex counselling incorporated into the counsellor trainee's curriculum. (Author)

A behaviorally specific motivational effort rating scale was developed and tested. The organizational specific scale results were examined and compared to those generated from the Landy and Guion scale. It was found that the organizationally specific and engineer relevant scale is a better predictor of two types of expectancies. (Author)

Whether graduate students' income sources differ by sex was studied at a large midwestern university on the basis of a stratified random sample. Although there was little evidence of blatant sex discrimination, cultural sex norms may explain differing education choices and patterns that affect income sources. (Author)

The stability of personality types as assessed by a person's major field at graduation and by high-point VPI code as an employed adult is demonstrated for intervals of 10 to 35 years for 884 men and women. The concurrent validity of the VPI for employed adults is also substantial. (Author)

Four groups of male undergraduates were instructed to perform complex cognitive operations when randomly presented single digits of a dichotic listening paradigm. An erotic tape recording was played into the nonattended ear. Sexual arousal varied directly as a function of the complexity of the distracting cognitive operations. (Author)

The proposal that support for equality between the sexes is multidimensional was supported by factor analyses of data from smaller samples and cross-validated on a sample of 639 subjects ranging in age from 14 to 73 years. (Author)

Students who made an initial appointment for counseling but did not keep it are compared with students who kept appointments at a counseling center or psychiatric service. Impulsiveness appears to be the main characteristic distinguishing the "no shows" from the "shows". A few other differences were observed, especially for women. (Author)

Examines the effects of individual goal structures on the intra- and interpersonal behavior of 120 fourth-grade children. Both boys and girls appeared to adopt the evaluations of their work given by the experimenter and appeared to be influenced thereby in later prize-giving to themselves and to others. (Author)

This study of workers' satisfaction with their supervisors found, contrary to popular belief, that female supervisors received significantly higher scores on most of the variables considered. The article explores a number of myths about females as supervisors that are contradicted by the findings. (Author)
