Subjects, 24 old and 24 young people, were given one learning trial on paired associate lists under four temporal conditions. Recall scores of elderly subjects but not young subjects improved significantly as a function of the registration interval. To correct for measurement error in the correlation of student status with achievement gain, the simplex model was used. Results supported the authors' hypothesis that status and gain are correlated.
