The Impact of the Mindsets Mathematics Program on Student Engagement, Ability to Reason, and Repeated Reasoning
Nicholas A. Gage
WestEd
The Mindsets mathematics program addresses the challenge of engaging middle school students in rigorous, grade-level math by making mathematical reasoning relevant, collaborative, and accessible. This research examines how the program uses hands-on, real-world challenges to promote engagement and deep understanding while meaningfully improving students' mathematical reasoning and repeated reasoning skills. The study further demonstrates that Mindsets is effective in mixed-grade classrooms, supporting long-term success in mathematics.
