Cognitive Differentiation Analysis (CDA) represents a method to measure the correspondence of an individual vector or a composite vector of descriptor ratings to a matrix of pair-wise dissimilarity judgments where both sets of judgments are assumed to be ordinal. Multidimensional scaling (MDS) and Pathfinder techniques for assessing changes in the structural representation of a knowledge domain were studied with relatedness ratings collected from 72 Spanish college students. A stochastic multidimensional scaling procedure is presented for analysis of three-mode, three-way pick any/"J" data. The procedure fits both vector and ideal-point models and characterizes the effect of situations by a set of dimension weights. An application in the area of consumer psychology is discussed. (SLD)
