Peer reviewedGreen, Sue M.; Voegeli, David; Harrison, Maureen; Phillips, Jackie; Knowles, Jess; Weaver, Mike; Shepard, Kerry – Nurse Education Today, 2003
Nursing students (n=656) used streaming videos on immune, endocrine, and neurological systems using Blackboard software. Of students who viewed all three, 32% found access easy, 59% enjoyed them, and 25% felt very confident in their learning. Results were consistent across three different types and embedding methods. Technical and access problems…

Peer reviewedMcGregor, Sue L. T.; ChirChir, Valentine; Couch, Rose; Jobolingo, Dorothy; Manyenga, Grace; Pothier, Michelle – Canadian Home Economics Journal, 1998
Analysis of a consumer education curriculum identified the extent to which modules reflected the perspectives of systems theory, life cycle model, economic exchange theory, and family member involvement model. Blank, Douglas; Kumar, Deepak; Meeden, Lisa; Yanco, Holly – Journal on Educational Resources in Computing, 2004
In this article we describe a programming framework called Pyro, which provides a set of abstractions that allows students to write platform-independent robot programs. This project is unique because of its focus on the pedagogical implications of teaching mobile robotics via a top-down approach. We describe the background of the project, its…

Caprette, David R.; Armstrong, Sarah; Beason, K. Beth – Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Education, 2005
Our modular laboratory teaching program is characterized by two major features. First, each course is taught independently and not linked with a particular lecture course. Second, each course is designed to be completed within one-half semester or less. The modular organization has allowed incorporation of the latest technology, reduction of class…

Rehder, B.; Hoffman, A.B. – Cognitive Psychology, 2005
An eyetracking version of the classic Shepard, Hovland, and Jenkins (1961) experiment was conducted. Forty years of research has assumed that category learning often involves learning to selectively attend to only those stimulus dimensions useful for classification. We confirmed that participants learned to allocate their attention optimally. We…

Busetti, Emanuela; Dettori, Giuliana; Forcheri, Paola; Ierardi, Maria Grazia – International Journal of Distance Education Technologies, 2007
In this article we describe an approach to the design of learning objects (LOs) suitable to support learning in complex domains. We briefly discuss, from an educational point of view, the methodological choices underlying the design of LOs to be used as didactical materials in a distributed Web-based environment, presently under development,…

Traditionally the measures used to evaluate the impact of an educational programme on student outcomes and the extent to which students change is a comparison of the student's pre-test scores with his/her post-test scores. However, this method of evaluating change may be problematic due to the confounding factor of response shift bias when student…
