Suris, Alina; Kashner, T. Michael; Gillaspy, James A., Jr.; Biggs, Melanie; Rush, A. John – Journal of Offender Rehabilitation, 2001
While the reliability and validity of Inventory of Depressive Symptomatology (IDS) scores have been established with outpatient adults being treated in community psychiatric clinics, it has not been used in special or dually diagnosed populations. Establishes internal consistency, concurrent validity, and construct validity for both the clinical…

Thompson, Bruce; Daniel, Larry G. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1996
Expectations for reporting factor analysis results as part of construct validation are explored in the context of emerging views of measurement validity. Desired practices are discussed for both exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis. A short computer program for conducting parallel analysis is included. (Author/SLD)

Clampitt, Phillip G.; Girard, Dennis – New Jersey Journal of Communication, 1993
Finds limited usefulness of the demographic variables in explaining communication satisfaction reaffirms for the importance of viewing organizational communication within the contingency framework finds the communication satisfaction framework provided a useful tool for explaining end-product variables and was more effective in explaining job…

Marsh, Herbert W.; Plucker, Jonathan A.; Stocking, Vicki B. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 2001
Reanalyzed data from the Self-Description Questionnaire II (SDQII) from an earlier study of 376 gifted students, and a new study of 837 gifted students to explore alternative approaches to missing data and data normalization. Results strongly support the construct validity of responses to the SDQII by gifted adolescents. (SLD)

Torres-Rivera, Edil; Wilbur, Michael P.; Maddux, Cleborne D.; Smaby, Marlowe H.; Phan, Loan T.; Roberts-Wilbur, Janice – Counselor Education and Supervision, 2002
Presents an exploratory factor analysis of the scores of 248 counselors-in-training on the Counselor Skills Personal Development Rating Form (CSPD-RF). Authors of the test hypothesized that the CPSD-RF measured 2 factors, personal development and skills development. Factor analysis revealed 4 factors accounting for 58.4% of the total variance,…

Cunningham, James W.; Erickson, Karen A.; Spadorcia, Stephanie A.; Koppenhaver, David A.; Cunningham, Patricia M.; Yoder, David E.; McKenna, Michael C. – Journal of Literacy Research, 1999
Examines first and second graders' decoding of one-syllable words and nonwords, each comprised of a high- to moderate-utility onset and a high-utility rime. Finds the construct validity of decoding items varied, depending on whether they were words or nonwords. Notes a superior construct validity of words over nonwords as decoding items. (RS)

Jerabek, J. Ann; Meyer, Linda S.; Kordinak, S. Thomas – Library & Information Science Research, 2001
Discussion of library anxiety and computer anxiety focuses on a study of undergraduates that investigated the construct validity of the Computer Anxiety Index and the Library Anxiety Scale. Explains the use of the Institute for Personality and Ability Testing (IPAT) Anxiety Scale for the criterion measure of anxiety. (Author/LRW)

Lowe, Patricia A.; Reynolds, Cecil R. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 2000
Performed exploratory factor analysis of the responses of 458 older adults, aged 60 to 100 years, to the Adult Manifest Anxiety Scale-Elderly Version (based on a scale by J. Taylor, 1953). Found a three-factor structure of anxiety consistent with current theories of anxiety that supports the construct validity of the measure. (SLD)

Windle, Michael; Dumenci, Levent – Structural Equation Modeling, 1999
Conducted simultaneous group confirmatory factor analyses of the Psychopathy Checklist-Revised (PCL-R)(R. Hare, 1991) with 740 alcoholic inpatients. Results provide general support for the use of the PCL-R with alcoholic inpatients, although there was substantial intercorrelation for the factors of Personality and Behavioral Features. (SLD)

Stout, William – Applied Psychological Measurement, 2001
Discusses the papers in this special issue, emphasizing the practical applicability of nonparametric item response theory (NIRT) and how NIRT addresses lack-of-fit issues. Also discusses the ability of NIRT to assess latent multidimensionality and the relation of latent multidimensionality analyses to construct validity. (SLD)

Cokley, Kevin O.; Helm, Katherine – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2001
Tests the validity of scores on the Multidimensional Inventory of Black Identity (MIBI) using confirmatory factor analysis and correlations. Results show partial support for construct validity. An item analysis was performed to identify problematic items. Discusses implications for racial identity research. (Contains 54 references and 2 tables.)…

Pellegrini, Ekin K.; Scandura, Terri A. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 2005
Ensuring construct comparability is a prerequisite for testing cross-group differences, yet this assumption is rarely tested in mentoring research. More studies testing for factorial invariance are needed for the construct validation of mentoring. Multiple group confirmatory factor analyses (CFAs) were used to investigate the factorial stability…
