Hill, Sylvia – ProQuest LLC, 2009
Asynchronous online learning is well documented with adults, but fewer studies of effectiveness have emphasized elementary education learning environments. This study investigated student achievement on the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) test for fifth grade students who had participated in synchronous and asynchronous courses…

Justo, Clemente Franco – Electronic Journal of Research in Educational Psychology, 2008
Introduction: Although there have been many definitions and much research has been done in the field of creativity in the last few years, scarce attention has been devoted to studying and investigating the motor area of creativity. In this study we sought to verify the effect that a creative relaxation programme could have on the self-concept…

Kutnick, Peter; Ota, Cathy; Berdondini, Lucia – Learning and Instruction, 2008
Within primary school classrooms children are often seated in groups but research shows that pupils do not collaborate or learn effectively within these groups. This study is focused on children 5-7 years old. Using a quasi-experimental design, children in experimental classes undertook relational activities to improve the effectiveness of group…

Bishop, M. J.; White, Sally A. – Journal of College Student Retention: Research, Theory & Practice, 2008
Colleges are under mounting pressure to increase retention rates by easing incoming students' academic and social transition to college. Finding time in first-year students' busy schedules to provide this additional support can be difficult, however. Thus, the Clipper Project set out to test whether offering online, college level courses to high…

Mark, Melvin M. – New Directions for Program Evaluation, 1986
Several validity typologies are overviewed then integrated. The integrated framework is used to contrast the positions of Campbell and Cronback. The current practice and logic of quasi-experimentation is critiqued, and expansions beyond the primary focus of dominant validity typologies are suggested. (BS)

Wasik, John L. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1981
The use of segmented polynomial models is explained. Examples of design matrices of dummy variables are given for the least squares analyses of time series and discontinuity quasi-experimental research designs. Linear combinations of dummy variable vectors appear to provide tests of effects in the two quasi-experimental designs. (Author/BW)

Shapiro, Jonathan – Educational Evaluation and Policy Analysis, 1982
In an effort to maintain internal validity while maximizing the generalizability of evaluation results, the theory-testing methodology that links program activities to outcomes (program theory) is proposed. To evaluate a program by explicating and testing the program theory is to perform evaluation as theory testing. (PN)

Hedrick, Terry E.; Shipman, Stephanie L. – Evaluation Review, 1988
Changes made in 1981 to the Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC) program under the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act were evaluated. Multiple quasi-experimental designs (interrupted time series, non-equivalent comparison groups, and simple pre-post designs) used to address evaluation questions illustrate the issues faced by evaluators in…
