Leechford, Sandra; Rice, Dale R. – School Science and Mathematics, 1982
The sample was a randomly selected sixth-grade class in a medium-sized southern city, and consisted of 33 students. The study was designed to answer four questions pertaining to the effect of calculators. Results indicated a calculator-based curriculum has a positive effect on student problem solving. (MP)

It is felt that Aptitude-Treatment-Interaction (ATI) research is just scratching the surface as yet and does not have sufficient information to support a general theory. Students in Papua, New Guinea were given a test in which the words more and less were used in different contexts. Half the pupils studied had English as their first language; for the other half English was a second language. Study results of pupil errors suggested serious educational implications. (MP)

Seven workbook-oriented programs and one activity-oriented program were surveyed, and 106 different mathematics concepts were identified for kindergarten mathematics programs. Specific programs presented 31-58 of the concepts. Sixteen projects are described with uses that cover 87 concepts. They are suggested as supplements to any program. (MP)
