Combining Poetic Analysis with Thematic Analysis to Understand U.S. Transnational Teachers' Intersectional Precarity in China. Sage Research Methods Cases Part 1
Yixuan Wang
Sage Research Methods Cases
Many qualitative researchers have incorporated poetry in qualitative research to analyze data and present findings. Found poetry, poetic transcription, and data poems are well-known poetic methods in qualitative data analysis that scholars have adopted to analyze data and artistically represent findings. The research project that this case is based upon focuses on US transnational teachers' intersectionality and precarity as transnational teachers and global migrant workers in China. This case explores a combination of thematic analysis and poetic analysis that was developed from the engagement with one of the interviews in the project. This case also provides methodological implications for ethics and engagement with literary communities when conducting poetic analysis in qualitative research.
