This study aims to unveil the underlying mechanism of the tension between perceived and expected convenience in students' offline-to-online switching intention under the tenet of person-environment fit theory, considering the moderating roles of outcome and process orientation. Through an online survey, 284 valid responses were collected. Response surface analysis was employed to validate the effects of consistency and inconsistency between perceived and expected convenience. Results demonstrated that the consistency between perceived and expected convenience applies a linear positive effect on offline-to-online switching intention, whereas, the inconsistency exerts curvilinear effect on the intention. Outcome and process orientation play prominent moderating roles in the relationship. The findings are helpful for better understanding students' offline-to-online switching intention and shed significant lights on practice.
